Elora H. López-Nandam

The evolution of resilience, from molecules to ecosystems

About

I am a Research Scientist in Invertebrate Zoology at California Academy of Sciences. I work in the Coral Regeneration Lab, and I collaborate with Steinhart Aquarium biologists on sea star husbandry and genomics.

Current Projects

Aquarium Breeding Genomics

Read our paper on the genomics of aquarium-spawned corals and their wild-caught parents.

Heat selection

I plan to select for heat-tolerant larvae to be raised into heat-tolerant adult corals.

Ph.D. Projects

Coral Bleaching

Read our paper on differences in bleaching recovery in two Acropora species here.

Genome Maintenance

Read our paper on somatic mutations and genome stability maintenance in corals here.

Ionizing Nuclear Radiation

I study the effects of nuclear testing on the genomes of wildlife.

Coral Cell Lineages

Read our paper on mutation inheritance in coral soma and sperm, and what it suggests about coral stem cells and evolution.
